NOW OPEN: Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land

Goldfish Swim School, the leading premier learn-to-swim franchise, has opened its new 10,000-square-foot Sugar Land location for water safety and swim lessons. Owned by Sugar Land native Tommy Philips, the school uses a research-based philosophy called The Science of SwimPlay®. Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land is accepting registration for swim lessons and memberships for children four months to 12 years of age.

“As a father of two, I know firsthand the importance of teaching water safety to your children,” Philips said. “I’m proud to open this swim school in my hometown so that friends, family and neighbors alike can provide their children the opportunity to learn to swim in a fun and safe environment.”

With the state of Texas facing the highest childhood drowning rates in the country, Philips shared that any child in Sugar Land or surrounding communities can sign up for one free swim lesson at Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land. Last year in Texas alone at least 221 children ages 15 and under drowned in a pool or spa nationwide in 2019, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

At its core, Goldfish Swim School has one mission: to help children be safer in and around the water. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, all children over the age of 1 should enroll in swimming lessons to help decrease the risk of childhood drowning.

GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Goldfish Swim School bases its program on the scientific model that a child’s cognitive growth is rooted in two key factors: a safe environment and learning through guided play. Certified swimming instructors use The Science of SwimPlay to teach children of all ages and skill levels how to swim. While children enjoy the fun, the instructors focus on the serious skills they’re training.

“We’ve created an inviting and safe place where kids can overcome their fears, learn to swim, respect the water and have lots of fun while doing it,” said Philips.

MAKING THE EXPERIENCE GOLDEN
Beyond a safe environment that encourages learning through guided play, the new Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land features:

• State-of-the-art water purification system to keep the pool clean and sanitary
• Air-conditioned viewing gallery for parents to relax and watch their kids swim
• Confidence-building curriculum that celebrates achievements

The team at Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land is also committed to following all operational guidelines set by local, state and national authorities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

GOLDEN LEARNERS
In partnership with Hope For Three, the preeminent autism advocacy group in the Greater Houston area, Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land provides dedicated lessons for Golden Learners, or children with autism or special needs. To ease a child’s transition into swimming lessons, the school connects directly with parents before classes begin to learn more, including what works and what doesn’t work when interacting with each child.

Additionally, the school shares a “splash book” for each child to use as a visual support to lessons. Children can also squeeze balls to aid in concentration when it’s not the child’s turn to swim. Above all else, Goldfish Swim School instructors use integrity, compassion and trust with every swimmer.

Goldfish School Swim of Sugar Land is located at 16618 Southwest Fwy, Suite A, Sugar Land, TX 77479 in the former Toys “R” Us lot. For swimming lesson registration and more information, visit goldfishswimschool.com/sugar-land/.
