U.S. News & World Report Best Places to Live rankings are designed to help readers make informed decisions about where to live. Cities were evaluated using data from Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS) and U.S. News’ internal resources. AGS develops its core database and specialized indexes using information from both government and private sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce, Federal Reserve and Bureau of Economic Analysis, as well as state and local data.

To rank among the top communities, cities needed to demonstrate strong value, a desirable living environment, economic opportunity and a high quality of life.
