From the City of Sugar Land:
The Sugar Land Police Department, along with Mayor McCutcheon, hosted a community meeting at Sweetwater Country Club on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The meeting was held to discuss a recent number of burglaries in the First Colony neighborhoods, specifically in Sweetwater (5), Williams Glen (2), Alcorn Bend (1), and Waters of Avalon (1), since July 4, 2025. The Sugar Land Police Command Staff provided updates, answered questions and heard concerns from a crowd of nearly 200 Sugar Land residents.
“Our officers are actively investigating the recent incidents in the First Colony area and are committed to keeping our community informed, and our neighborhoods safe,” Chief of Police Pete Lara began. “Rest assured, the Sugar Land Police Department is fully engaged in the investigation and taking all necessary measures to maintain the safety of our residents.”
Police say the perpetrators enter the neighborhoods through the levee, bayou and golf course. Crime Prevention Officer Arif Vadsaria handed out safety and home security tips.
“Crime prevention is most effective when law enforcement and the community work together. The vigilance of residents, combined with our patrol officers, is key to deterring criminal activity,” said Officer Vadsaria.
