Armed suspect is shot by Sugar Land Police.

From Sugar Land Police Department:

The Sugar Land Police Department last night responded to a report of a catalytic converter theft at the Imperial Lofts near Constellation Field just after 10 p.m.

After patrol officers arrived, the suspect vehicle fled from officers for a short distance before crashing. The occupants continued fleeing on foot into a field. Officers located one of the suspects and saw he was holding a handgun. A Sugar Land Police Officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. Paramedics were called immediately after the shooting, and Life Flight transported the male suspect to the Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators have determined the firearm held by the suspect was stolen from Harris County.

At this time, no other suspects are in custody, and anyone who has information about their identity or knowledge of this incident is asked to call the Sugar Land Police Department.

The Department asked the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Ranger Division to conduct an investigation into the shooting. For questions regarding that investigation, contact the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Sugar Land Police Department is continuing its investigation into the catalytic converter theft.
