City of Sugar Land turns off red light cameras.

The City of Sugar Land turned off its red light cameras June 2, 2019 after the State of Texas banned the use of the cameras.

The City stated that “Texas Gov. Greg Abbot signed House Bill 1631 on June 1 banning the use of red-light cameras in Texas. The bill is effective immediately, so red light cameras in Sugar Land were turned off on June 2. The city’s red light camera vendor will begin the removal of the equipment per the city’s contract. The removal process could take four to six months. Sugar Land’s RLC contract includes an adverse legislation termination clause. The city’s RLC vendor will remove their equipment at their cost. Staff will continue to monitor and review all intersections for traffic activity and vehicular crashes.”
