Day of Giving Marks the launch of Sugar Land Animal Shelter Campaign.

From the City of Sugar Land:

The city of Sugar Land recently launched a community fundraising campaign to support the construction of a new voter-approved animal shelter.

The Sugar Land Legacy Foundation is accepting tax-deductible donations at www.sugarlandlegacy.org/donate. The foundation is a multi-purpose 501(c)3 that works to leave a legacy by enhancing Sugar Land’s quality of life.  It works with individuals, corporations, trusts and other foundations interested in making sustainable, charitable, tax deductible donations to financially support or facilitate support for activities and capital projects that benefit the Sugar Land community.

City staff is working on the design process necessary for the future construction of a new animal shelter in Sugar Land on city-owned property next to the police department.

Community fundraising efforts of at least $2.2 million are anticipated to enhance a base shelter approved by voters in 2019.  City staff is evaluating inflationary increases since 2019 that could impact the construction of the shelter.

Sugar Land voters approved $6.6 million on Nov. 5, 2019, to fund the design and construction of a new animal shelter to address projected animal capacity from the city’s growth.  The construction of a new animal shelter was expected to address projected growth through 2030 and house a total of 70 dogs and 132 cats at any given time.
