The city of Sugar Land recently celebrated the successful completion of craft room improvements and an exterior bench at the T.E. Harman Center. The work was made possible by a generous donation from Ruth Heneghan in loving memory of Pat Matheny.
Heneghan’s generous contribution was facilitated through the Sugar Land Legacy Foundation and the Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department.
“This gracious donation, a tribute to the cherished memory of Patricia ‘Pat’ Ann Matheny, a beloved member of the T.E. Harman Center, underscores the lasting impact of her dedication to the center’s activities and its members,” said Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Kimberly Terrell.
Matheny’s passion for crafts, trips, painting, potlucks, BINGO and jewelry making resonated deeply during the event, where she spent more than two decades fostering connections and leaving an indelible mark. Heneghan’s guidance and support enabled the implementation of improvements that honor Matheny’s legacy, ensuring the space continues to serve as a hub for community engagement and creative endeavors.
The Sugar Land Legacy Foundation, an instrumental non-profit organization aligned with the city’s vision, endeavors to elevate community life through impactful projects. Heneghan’s contribution stands as a testament to the Foundation’s mission, showcasing how collective efforts can enhance the city’s quality of life and honor cherished individuals like Matheny.
The ceremony culminated with an address from Heneghan, who joined virtually from Illinois, where she expressed gratitude and shared sentiments about the significance of the project in honoring Matheny’s memory.
The bench and craft room enhancements at the T.E. Harman Center symbolize a tribute to Matheny’s enduring legacy, enriching the lives of current and future members while embodying the spirit of community.
