From the City of Sugar Land:

The City of Sugar Land has launched the Sugar Land Community Champion Award, a new recognition program honoring residents whose acts of service help make Sugar Land a stronger, more welcoming and more connected community.

A community champion can be anyone who takes action to support neighbors, bring people together or make Sugar Land a better place to live. Nominees may include people who:

  • Build community by fostering pride, connection and civic responsibility.
  • Create connections by bringing neighbors and community members together.
  • Lead by example and inspires others to get involved and make a difference.

“Every day, residents across Sugar Land make a difference through acts of kindness, service and neighborliness that often go unnoticed,” said Sabrina Abdulla, Director of Customer Experience. “The Community Champion Award gives us an opportunity to recognize individuals and share their stories.”

The Community Champion Award was developed in response to stakeholder feedback gathered through the City’s 2025–2027 Strategic Action Plan. The award advances the plan’s goal of Encouraging Community Engagement and supports the City’s efforts to promote civic responsibility, acts of kindness and stronger connections among residents.

Nominations are open through Dec. 18, 2026. The Community Champion Award will be presented at the City’s first Sugar Land Community Expo on Feb. 20, 2027.

The Sugar Land Community Expo will bring the community together to connect, learn and engage. Residents will have the opportunity to meet the people and organizations that help shape Sugar Land, including City services, elected officials and community partners. The expo will be free, family-friendly and open to everyone.
