From the City of Sugar Land:
Sugar Land firefighters, police officers and other city employees will join the community Sept. 21-25 to celebrate front-line hospital workers during Healthcare Heroes Week.
The celebration had been scheduled in August but was delayed due to Hurricane Laura.
“The sacrifices being made by our medical professionals, first-responders and their families on the front lines of COVID doesn’t go unnoticed in Sugar Land,” said City Manager Michael W. Goodrum. “We are incredibly appreciative of their dedication and tireless efforts to keep us all safe, and we recognize that they have willingly placed themselves in harm’s way to serve our community during this time of need. I want to thank each every one of you for making a difference.”
During Healthcare Heroes week, city, community and hospital buildings will be lighted blue, and residents and community groups are encouraged to replace porch lights with blue bulbs and tie blue ribbons around trees in their yards.
Drive by parades have been scheduled for the three major hospitals in Sugar Land. Citizens are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and join firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other city employees who will participate in these parades. The parades will be held at:
- Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, 16655 Southwest Freeway, on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.;
- CHI St. Luke’s Health – Sugar Land Hospital, 1317 Lake Pointe Parkway, on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.; and
- Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, 17500 West Grand Parkway South, on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
During the parades, gift cards and snacks will be dropped off at each hospital for Sugar Land’s healthcare heroes. Residents are encouraged to join this activity by participating in Sugar Land’s Sweet Cash Program; for each gift card benefiting local businesses that is purchased through the program, an additional gift card will be provided to a healthcare worker.
More than 675 gift cards have already been distributed to frontline workers as part of the Sweet Cash program. Additional information about the Sweet Cash program and how to participate can be found at allinforSLTX.com.
